Bird Feeder Contest

This year we shifted our Annual Bird Feeder Design Contest from a public event to a student event. Low submissions last year convinced us to reach out to schools in the Ely Area and invite students to participate.

Museum staff visited Northeast Range School in Babbitt to talk about Dorothy Molter and her interest in birds, and then encouraged kids to use their creativity to make their own bird feeders for winter birds by repurposing items, building something new or upcycling otherwise unusable things.

Here in Ely, the 7th grade industrial arts class created beautiful wood feeders and then decorated them to stand out.

We are so proud of these students for their ingenuity, creativity and craftsmanship!
