Brew-it Yourself Programs

IofPRBLogoHave you ever wanted to learn how to make your own homemade root beer just like Dorothy Molter, the Root Beer Lady of Knife Lake? Here is a chance to try with a little guidance from the Dorothy Molter Museum this summer!

Dorothy sold her famous root beer to thousands of visitors each year at her island home in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness from the early 1950s through 1986. We have two types of classes this summer: Camp KWITCHURBELIAKIN and Brew-it Yourself  Class. Both are held at the Dorothy Molter Museum and include an age-appropriate program focused on the story behind Dorothy’s root beer business and guidance in making 32 oz. of your own root beer in a custom growler to take home and enjoy!

Camp KWITCHURBELIAKIN is offered to children ages 4-12 on Tuesdays through August 14 at 2-3:30pm and the cost is $12 per child, per week. Parents need not attend with children but are welcome to stay as a “helper” for free.
Min 4/Max 10 participants.

Please note, the start time of this program is printed incorrectly in the Ely Summer Times publication.

Brew-it Yourself Classes are offered on Thursdays, July 19 and August 16 at 6-8pm and is appropriate for ages 8 and up. However, children under 16 must be accompanied by a paid adult. The course fee is $15 and includes the private tour and all materials needed to make 32oz of delicious, home brew root beer.
Min 4/Max 10 participants.

Can’t make these dates? If you can’t make it here for a class or camp, or your children are too old/young, we can arrange a private program just for you! Min 6/ Max 10 participants. Give us a call or email to request one!

Advanced registration is strongly recommended due to the popularity of these programs:
