New leadership at Dorothy Molter Museum
Guy-Levar steps down, Edberg steps up and Bambas joins the team

[Ely, MN] The Dorothy Molter Museum has named Jess Edberg as its new Executive Director, taking over for Sarah Guy-Levar who will be stepping down March 1 and Laurie Bambas as the new Wholesale Manager.
Guy-Levar has served as the Executive Director since 2007 and has successfully led the Museum, reinvigorating it financially with a thriving craft root beer production and distribution and publishing a biography of Dorothy Molter.

She made the decision to step into a new role at the Museum as a consultant and tour guide commenting “I am looking forward to focusing more of my time on my passion for watercolor painting and having more flexibility to enjoy living in the Northwoods with my family. I will remain a very active member of the Dorothy Molter family though!” Guy-Levar will stay on as a part-time consultant and “Senior Tour Guide.”

Guy-Levar and Edberg worked on a plan together to ensure a smooth transition in leadership.

“Appointing Jess was a clear choice for us,” the Museum’s board president, Pam Brunfelt, said. “She has the experience, knowledge of the Museum, and a passion for bringing Dorothy’s story to the public.”

Edberg was hired in April 2014 as the Visitor Services Manager and will continue with many of the same duties. As part of the transition, a new Wholesale Manager position was created and filled to absorb the duties held by Guy-Levar specific to the brewing, bottling and distributing of the Museum’s Isle of Pines Root Beer product.

Laurie Bambas will start as the Wholesale Manager in March to shadow Guy-Levar in all things root beer. She is an Ely resident with ties to Chicago, IL – just like Dorothy Molter, and brings a wealth of experience in product distribution, shipping, retail and marketing. Most recently, Bambas managed store and e-commerce operations at Northern Tier High Adventure Base where she oversaw annual retail sales of over one million dollars, and 20 years’ experience in ocean export.

The Dorothy Molter Museum preserves and interprets Northwoods wilderness heritage through learning opportunities inspired by Dorothy Molter, the last non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary of being open to the public on Dorothy’s birthday May 6, 1993.
