It’s the time of year where the leaves start to give off the earthy scent of fall as they change color and fall to the ground frosting over in the cool, crisp nights and warming up to muffle the footsteps of forest travelers during the day.
It also signals a change in hours at the Dorothy Molter Museum.
As visitors to Ely decrease with the coming winter, we change our September hours to Saturdays and Sundays and then again in October to only Saturdays.
We still open the doors at 10am and offer the option of a guided tour but we are often shaking the rugs out by 4:45pm to an empty parking lot. It’s a bittersweet time of year when staff get a much needed moment to enjoy the splendor of fall lake trout fishing and grouse hunting or simply to sit a spell and breathe in the crisp fall air. On the other hand, it means fewer and fewer hours sharing Dorothy’s story until the museum closes for its winter slumber on October 27th.
We hope to see you yet this fall. If you will be visiting us outside of weekend hours and have a large group (8+) please call us for an appointment to tour the cabins. We will do our best to accommodate your requests.
